The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Bremen is the Higher Regional Court of Land Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and therefore part of Bremen's general jurisdiction . It was erected on July 15, 1947. Previously, the higher court of the Bremen courts was the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg , or previously the Higher Appeal Court of the four Free Cities in Lübeck . The establishment of Bremen's own higher regional court, supported by the US military government , was generally understood as an act to consolidate Bremen's statehood.

Seat and District of the Court

The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Bremen has its seat in Bremen. Its district corresponds to the area of ​​the federal state of Bremen. For certain matters, such as state security matters and inland navigation matters, however, it has transferred responsibilities to the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg by means of a state treaty . At the Higher Regional Court are 1,879 lawyers and general counsel attorneys admitted (as at 1st January 2018).

The legal seat and jurisdiction of the court are regulated in the Act Implementing the Courts Constitution Act (BremAGGVG) of October 11, 1960.

In 2015 there were 46 employees at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Bremen.

Courthouse

The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Bremen initially had its seat in the Old Court House at Domsheide 16. In 1950 the seat was moved to the property Contrescarpe 8 c and in 1957 to the property Sögestraße 62/64, where the Higher Regional Court resided until 2008. It has been housed in the Am Wall Justice Center since 2008 .

The building houses the Judicial Examination Office (JPA) on the 2nd floor. The oral part of the First State Examination is also taken here.
