The Bremerhaven District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction in Bremerhaven in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .

Seat and District of the Court

The court has its seat in Bremerhaven . The 93.82 km² judicial district extends to the urban area of ​​Bremerhaven with around 118,550 inhabitants.

The Bremen District Court has been responsible for dunning proceedings since October 1st, 2001 . Since January 1, 2013, the Bremerhaven District Court has been the central enforcement court for the State of Bremen.

In 2015 there were 78 employees at the Bremerhaven District Court.

building

The building was built between 1913 and 1916 according to plans by the Prussian government master builder Wilhelm Trautwein as a Prussian government building by the Royal Prussian Building Authority Lehe. The palatial, three-winged building was built in the neo-baroque style. It is a three-storey brick building with a hipped roof and a richly decorated gable that emphasizes the entrance. Inside, the listed building was restored in the style of Prussian government buildings. Among other things, the building has stucco ceilings .

In 1993 the courthouse on Nordstrasse 10 was placed under monument protection as a single monument . Together with the court prison to the north (Nordstraße 12), it forms a protected overall complex (see: List of cultural monuments in Bremerhaven ).

history

The roots of the Bremerhaven District Court go back to the Bremerhaven Office of Bremen and the Hanoverian District Courts in Lehe and Geestemünde .

Bremen Office

After Bremerhaven was founded, the Bremerhaven Office was set up, which had executive functions and at the same time also jurisdiction for the Bremen area of ​​today's Bremerhaven. With the enactment of the Reich Justice Laws, there was no longer any room for deviating jurisdictions in addition to the current structure of the ordinary jurisdiction from 1879. The Bremerhaven District Court was therefore set up as such.

Hanoverian dishes

In that time still the Kingdom of Hanover belonging Lehe 1852 the District Court Lehe was founded. In 1864 the court was divided into the district courts of Lehe and Geestemünde. In 1866 these district courts became Prussian as a result of the German War .

Common story

On October 9, 1942, the three district courts were combined to form the Wesermünde District Court and subordinated to the Verden District Court . On February 18, 1947, the British occupation authorities subordinated the Wesermünde District Court to the Bremen Regional Court . On March 10, 1947, the court was renamed the Bremerhaven District Court.

Superior courts

The Bremen Regional Court is superordinate to the Bremerhaven District Court. The competent higher regional court is the Hanseatic higher regional court in Bremen .
