History, buildings and historical archive
The higher regional court was formed in 1816 immediately after the founding of the Prussian province of Saxony and was initially responsible for the two administrative districts of Merseburg and Erfurt .
Today's service building at Domplatz 10 was built high above the city of Naumburg on the site of a medieval castle. From 1750 the cathedral provost was located here . Between 1914 and 1917 the architect Fritz Hoßfeld built today's building in the neo- baroque style , incorporating elements of Art Nouveau . The building has four wings, with the central part being particularly emphasized. The furnishings were lavish and monumental. A restoration took place between 1990 and 1996 .
The historical archive (including the feudal and mortgage archives ) of the Higher Regional Court of Naumburg goes back to the late Middle Ages and is administered in the Saxony-Anhalt State Archive , which is also responsible for the historical transmission of the Saxony-Anhalt local courts and their predecessor territories.

Known court cases
Görgülü case
Since 2004 , the 14th Civil Senate has received a lot of media interest and clear criticism in connection with the Görgülü custody case . Because of this case, the Halle public prosecutor's office had brought charges against the judges of the Senate for perversion of the law, which, however, was not admitted by the Halle Regional Court , which the 2nd Criminal Senate of the Higher Regional Court confirmed as a result.
Püschel case
On October 22, 2015, the NPD politician Hans Püschel was acquitted. After the judgment became known, the FAZ wrote: “The judgment of the Higher Regional Court, which allowed itself to be insulted as a court martial , is a scandal , both morally and technically . With the special status of freedom of expression , this trivialization of the trivialization of the genocide cannot be excused. "
Case of "breach of court"
In the case of a break- in into an animal stable, the acquittal was confirmed from the point of view of justifying emergency ( § 34 StGB).
Oury Jalloh case
In the Oury Jalloh case, enforcement proceedings were carried out before the OLG Naumburg . By decision of October 22, 2019, the Higher Regional Court considered the Naumburg Public Prosecutor's Office's grounds for discontinuation to be lawful. On November 25, 2019, a constitutional complaint was lodged with the Federal Constitutional Court against this final decision by the Naumburg Higher Regional Court, albeit without a prior hearing notice.
Negotiation of the attack in Halle (Saale)
On December 21, 2020, 14 months after the anti-Semitic attack on a synagogue in Halle an der Saale, the defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment with subsequent preventive detention. Two people were killed in this attack, and the crime was broadcast live on the Internet using a helmet camera.
