Courthouse

The regional court is located in a judicial building at Halberstädter Straße 8 in the Magdeburg district of Sudenburg .

The building, in the style of historicism , was built between 1900 and 1906 according to plans by the senior construction officials Hermann Angelroth and Paul Thoemer in the Prussian Ministry of Public Works in Berlin. It originally consisted of two four-storey building wings which flanked a particularly representative central section with corner risers . The middle section was bordered by two 50 meter high towers. The facade was made of stone .

In April 1945, the building was badly damaged by artillery fire from US troops located near Ottersleben . The central part and the north wing were completely destroyed. During the existence of the GDR , the area was only roughly cleared. It was only in 2001 that construction took place on the site of the destroyed parts of the building. When a complete reconstruction was initially considered, it was ultimately only possible to implement a form determined by the materials glass and concrete , which was based on the historical appearance , through various levels of this idea dictated by financial constraints (e.g. functional building behind a faithfully reconstructed facade) of the building. This component provides space for urgently needed meeting rooms in particular. It is seamlessly connected to the old part of the building, in which the lovingly restored main staircase deserves special attention.

From December 1, 1932, Friedrich Weißler was regional court director (today; presiding judge at the regional court) for a few months before he was deposed by the National Socialists . A plaque unveiled in 2006 in the regional court commemorates Weißler, who was murdered in Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1937 . Since November 19, 2008, the building has been named after him as "Friedrich-Weißler-Haus". One of Weißler's predecessors was Siegfried Loewenthal , who served as President from 1922 to 1927 .

Processes of supraregional importance
