building

The building of the regional court was built between 1903 and 1905. It is one of the most representative buildings in the city in the typical, historic style of Wilhelmine justice buildings. The architects of the four-wing building were the Prussian construction officials Paul Thoemer in the Prussian Ministry of Public Works in Berlin and Karl Illert (1856–1907) in Halle. It has a wide double tower facade facing the Hansering, which is adorned, among other things, with portraits of legal scholars and on the window sills with animals and mythical creatures. The flanking towers are 50 meters high. Stylistically, it also combines forms of Gothic , Renaissance and Art Nouveau . In addition to the sandstone facade, the stairwell with a double spiral staircase in a circular domed hall with a diameter of approx. 20 meters and a height of 42 meters is remarkable .

The Palace of Justice was extensively restored and reopened in spring 2013.
