Courthouse

On December 29, 1912, the Prussian Ministry of Justice decided to build a new district court on the Scheube-Brehm property. Construction began in October 1914. The new court was erected in a construction period of only 25 months and handed over to its intended use on November 1, 1916. The size and architectural design of the building is a typical Prussian court building in a medium-sized town around 1914. It is a three-storey plastered building with an L-shaped floor plan in neo-baroque style with a high rusticated base cornice and limestone structures. The central project of the main building is oriented towards Herzog-Moritz-Platz as a facade. Inside there is an elaborate vestibule with an opulent staircase. Doric columns with a balcony belong to the portal . On the balcony parapet there are two putti , one with a legal code and one with a bundle of files in his arms; they were donated by the city of Zeitz. In the middle above the portal, the balcony parapet bears a cartouche with a relief representation of a scale as a symbol of jurisdiction.

In 2004 the building was thoroughly renovated. In 2012 it got an elevator. During the flood in 2013, the water in the basement was head-high. In November 2016, the building's centenary was celebrated.

Exhibitions

Changing exhibitions take place in the court. In addition to photo and art exhibitions, there are also thematic exhibitions (Justice under National Socialism, Shot at the Border).
