Hans-Jürgen Schaller (sports scientist)

Hans-Jürgen Schaller (born June 1, 1937 in Raasdorf ) is a German sports pedagogue and university professor .

Life

Schaller studied in Cologne , Wuppertal , Bochum and Dortmund . In 1973 he completed his doctoral thesis at the Pedagogical University of Dortmund on the subject of "On the educational theory of play: an investigation of educational theoretical models of play and the possibilities of current game education". He was professor and director at the Institute for Sport Science and Sport at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and from 1997 to 2002 he was dean of the pedagogical faculty. He retired at the end of July 2002.

In particular, Schaller conducted research on the topic of senior sports and led several projects in this regard, for example on "Motor learning in older people", "Development of throwing accuracy in advanced age", and "Senior sports offers in the Federal Republic of Germany". He was co-editor of the “Handbook for Elderly Sports” and together with Panja Wernz published the guide “Coordination Training for Seniors”. In addition, Schaller also dealt with "exemplary learning in sport" and game education. Together with Knut Dietrich and Gerhard Dürrwächter , he brought out the book "The Great Games".
