Hans-Jürgen Thomm

Hans-Jürgen Thomm (born May 26, 1908 in Stralsund ; † May 23, 2005 in Leipzig ) was a German church musician and regional music director of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony .

Hans-Jürgen Thomm studied at the Church Music Institute of the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig with Günther Ramin and Karl Straube . He then attended the state singing school seminar in Augsburg . In 1934 he became cantor at the Taborkirche in Leipzig- Kleinzschocher .

After the Second World War he worked on reorganizing the training of cantors and catechists and on building up the church music school in Dresden . From 1950 as church music director in Leipzig, he organized national music festivals and regional music days. In 1953, he succeeded Martin Flämig as the Saxon regional church music director. The following year he was the musical director of the German Evangelical Church Congress in Leipzig.

In 1958 he introduced the Singwochen in Saxony. Thomm supported the church music promotion of lay people, laid out fields of activity for church musicians and published "guidelines for the activities of the choir and the organ in worship" of the Saxon regional church. 1977 ended his office as regional church music director. He worked as a church musician until he retired in 1984 and occasionally afterwards.
