Hans-Joachim Bohm

Hans-Joachim Böhm (born November 20, 1956 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German chemist ( drug design ).

Böhm studied chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe , where he received his doctorate in theoretical chemistry in 1984 and completed his habilitation in 1993. From 1985 he worked in microelectronics research at Siemens AG and from 1988 at BASF in Ludwigshafen. In 1996 he went to Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, where he headed the research center in Palo Alto from 2006 to 2008 , before becoming head of global chemical research in 2008. In 2003 he became professor of bioinformatics at the University of Basel.

He deals with structure-based and computer-aided design of drugs. His book on drug design with Gerhard Klebe (University of Marburg) and Hugo Kubinyi (BASF) received the 1999 literature prize from the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie .

He has been a member of the Swiss Science and Innovation Council (SWIR) since 2013 .

He is married and has two sons.
