Tony Pitt

Anthony Russell "Tony" Pitt (born March 1, 1940 in Wolverhampton ) is a British musician ( guitar , banjo ) of traditional jazz .

Live and act

Pitt comes from a musical family; the bass player Vic Pitt is his brother. He first learned to play the violin in school and then switched to the banjo when he performed with the local Crescent City Stompers in Chatham . He turned to the guitar and founded his own ski trio , in which his brother also played. In 1960 he was part of Kenny Ball's band , played with Cy Laurie and Nat Gonella in 1961 . Until 1963 he was a member of Alex Welsh's band , performed with Memphis Slim and then spent six months with Mike Cotton Sound . Between 1964 and 1974 he played with Acker Bilk's Paramount Jazz Band , only to work again with Kenny Ball's Jazz Men , but also with Alan Elsdon . He was a member of Laurie Chescoe's Good Time Jazz in the 1990s, then performed with Terry Lightfoot's Jazzmen and Phil Mason's New Orleans All Stars . He also played with Bob Bates' Sousaphonia . Since 2006 he has been traveling with his own All Stars . He can also be heard on albums by Humphrey Lyttelton and Wally Fawkes .
