Vic Pitt

Rodney Victor James "Vic" Pitt (born September 26, 1941 in Wolverhampton ) is a British musician ( double bass , tuba and bass guitar ) of traditional jazz .

Live and act

Pitt comes from a musical family; the guitarist Tony Pitt is his brother. He first played house music on the mandolin with the family and then switched to the banjo when he performed with the local Crescent City Stompers in Chatham . As a double bass player he played in the Deep Bayou Jazz Band in 1956, in his brother's ski trio in 1958 , and then became a member of the City Ramblers around Russell Quaye and made recordings for the Tempo label . Between 1959 and 1977 he was part of Kenny Ball's band , with whom he also appeared in the 1961 film It's Trad Dad . Then he was part of Chris Barber's band for almost 30 years before retiring from the music scene in 2007. He also accompanied John Lewis (1978; live album on Black Lion) and Dr. John ( Take Me Back to New Orleans 1983) through Europe. Other albums with Pitt were recorded by the Top 8 (with, among others, Acker Bilk , Rod Mason , Keith Nichols ) and by Wally Fawkes . He can also be heard on all of John Crocker 's albums.
