Hans-Joachim Happy

Hans-Joachim Glücklich (born January 24, 1941 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German classical philologist and didactic specialist in ancient languages.

He studied from 1960 to 1965 classical philology at the universities of Heidelberg and Rome and 1966 with the dissertation recess and antithesis. Doctorate in studies of Terence Comedy . From 1966 to 1969 he was a research assistant at Heidelberg University.

In 1970 he became a high school teacher and taught until his retirement in 2005 at the Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium in Mainz. From 1973 he was a professional manager for Latin class , since 1980 also for Greek lessons at the State Studienseminar Mainz. In 1981 he became honorary professor for didactics of ancient languages ​​in Heidelberg. As the editor of the Consilia and Exempla series as well as of modern school editions by ancient authors ( Gaius Iulius Caesar , Catullus , Plautus , Virgil , Terenz ), he made a name for himself. He also wrote several commentaries for teachers. An important didactic creation is "linear decoding" as a method of text indexing. He is the author of the didactic textbook “Latin Lessons. Didactics and Methodology ”(1978, 1993).
