Exempla

Exempla (spelling exempla) is a literary magazine that was founded in Tübingen in 1974 and has been published regularly since then.

history

"exempla" was founded by a group of students led by Peter Pörtner and Ralph Roger Glöckler . The aim with this publication platform was to promote young literary talents in the fields of poetry , short stories and essays .

From 1980 the poet Wolfgang Rappsilber was the editor. "exempla" was published by AS-Verlag in the 1980s and was best known during this time. In 1987 the publisher went bankrupt and the magazine was threatened with closure.

In this situation, the Möglingen author Ursula Jetter took over the editorial office because she wanted to continue promoting literary talents. Since then the magazine has been published in Ludwigsburg . Under Ursula Jetter's direction, exempla continues to publish texts by unknown young authors in connection with texts by already established authors. In addition to the forms of literature already mentioned, the publication of extracts from novels was added over time.

For the individual editions, the editors usually specify key topics. Overall, exempla deals with all areas of modern reality and is often also socially critical. The volumes are provided with illustrations by mostly well-known artists.

In addition to its publication as a print medium, exempla is also known for various events such as author meetings and readings.

For a long time, the Stuttgart Writers' House sponsored the magazine with funds from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Art . In 2002 the state stopped all funding for literary magazines. Since then, the magazine has been co-financed by changing sponsors and donors.
