Homogenic is the third studio album by the Icelandic singer Björk .

background

It was created in Spain within a year . In contrast to the previous albums, Björk relies on string arrangements in Homogenic , which come from the Brazilian jazz musician Eumir Deodato . In addition, as on Post and Vespertine, there are various electronic trip-hop or techno beats with folk accordion tones . All of this creates soundscapes with which Björk wanted to capture her native Iceland musically. This project is visually documented in the music video for the song Jóga . The violins symbolize the expansive Icelandic landscapes, while rugged beats stand for erupting volcanoes . These musical experiments are linked by Björk's sometimes sentimental, sometimes powerful voice . This creates a kind of mixture, the energy of which is particularly noticeable in the song Bachelorette .

It achieved gold status in the US and UK . In France , Homogenic was awarded double platinum for more than 500,000 records sold .

The cover photo of the album was made by the English fashion photographer Nick Knight , who is responsible for many of Björk's photographs. The case was designed by the fashion designer Alexander McQueen .
