Hans-Peter Kriegel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans-Peter Kriegel (born October 1, 1948 ) is a German computer scientist and professor (em.) At the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he headed the teaching and research unit for database systems until 2014 . He was also deputy head of the university's computer science department.

Life

He received his doctorate in 1976 at the Technical University Fridericiana Karlsruhe on "Generating translations through grammar pairs". After his habilitation in computer science at the University of Dortmund in 1982 and professorships at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and the University of Bremen , he switched to the still young computer science department at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1991.

research

His best-known works include the database index structures R * tree , X tree and IQ tree, the cluster analysis algorithms DBSCAN and OPTICS and the outlier detection method Local Outlier Factor . Further research focuses are the similarity search on fuzzy and multimedia data as well as cluster analysis and outlier detection especially on high-dimensional, correlated data and in sub-spaces.

He is considered the most cited computer scientist at a German university and is one of the top 15 most cited researchers in the fields of databases and data mining / knowledge discovery in databases . His more than 450 publications to date have been cited in over 45,000 papers according to "Google Scholar".
