Hans-Werner Fabarius (born July 13, 1929 in Berlin-Lichtenberg ; † October 7, 2018 in Berlin-Marienfelde ) was a German homeland researcher .

Since 1949 he was an active member of the Protestant parish in Berlin-Marienfelde . As a volunteer archivist for the community and as a local researcher, he made many aspects of the history of the Marienfelde district in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district of Berlin accessible through several publications . He received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his activities .

Life

Fabarius began his professional training at the Reichspost in 1944 . This was interrupted in early 1945 when he was drafted to defend Fortress Berlin. In September 1945 he came to the Berlin-Marienfelde post office . From around 1960 he worked at the Berlin-Tempelhof post office and later at the Berlin 11 post office. After 43 years of service, he retired in 1987.

engagement

In 1949 he began his decades of voluntary work in the Marienfelde parish. He initially took part in youth work, later in the church congresses, in the editing of the parish letter, in the parish council and finally for many years in the parish council.

Since 1971 he has carried out the duties of archivist of the parish on a voluntary basis. The processing of the church archive provided him with the topics for his publications: the village church, the parish, the place or district, the architect Bruno Möhring.

He was concerned with the fate of Jewish people in the Marienfelde district during the Hitler regime. On his initiative a memorial stone was set in front of the house of the Jewish doctor Moritz Jakobsohn in 1989 and in 1991 a path was named after the well-deserved Marienfeld doctor.

In 2001, after extensive research, the parish published its 200-page Marienfeld Chronicle Marienfelde - From the Village to the District of Berlin . This work made him the leading local researcher in the district. This book was supplemented in 2006 by the illustrated book 100 Years Berlin-Marienfelde in 333 pictures , which was published in a new edition in 2018.

His work on Bruno Möhring , published in 2004, deals with the person of the internationally known architect, who has a special meaning for the Marienfeld parish through the renovation of the village church in 1920 and the construction of the cemetery chapel .

In March 2010, the Marienfelde Historical Working Group was set up with the aim of taking over the extensive archive of Hans-Werner Fabarius.

For Mr. Fabarius it was a matter close to his heart that his "Postal History of Berlin-Marienfelde" is published, in which he describes in great detail personal experiences from his decades of work as a delivery person in Berlin-Marienfelde . The events that took place here in Berlin-Marienfelde after the division of Germany are extremely interesting and cannot be read in history books. The Marienfelde Historical Working Group realized this request from Mr Fabarius and published the last book he wrote in 2017, supplemented with numerous photos and images of historical documents.
