Hans Arnold

Hans Arnold (born April 22, 1925 in Sursee ; † October 25, 2010 ) was a Swiss - Swedish animator and illustrator .

Life

Hans Arnold was trained at the art school in Lucerne , where he was accepted in 1936. At first he worked as a cartoon animator. After a few years in Paris , he went to Sweden in 1947.

There he came into contact with the publishing house Åhlén & Åkerlunds förlag , for whom he drew a man who sat on a coffin and played the violin as his first illustration. For the general public he made a name for himself as a horror and horror artist by illustrating the “shock of the week” Veckans Chock in the Swedish magazine Vecko-Revyn from 1954 to 1979 . He has also illustrated the children's and young people's books Astrid Lindgren's Allrakäraste Syster and Boris Karloff's Midnattsryttare and worked as an animator in the films “Matulda och Megasen” , “Fetknopparna” and “En konstig man” .

It is typical of Hans Arnold's drawings that he portrayed the everyday in a terrifying way; at the same time he illustrated children and women lovingly. He worked in detail and worked through with a move to surrealism .
