Hans Berger (born July 9, 1882 in Biel , † April 7, 1977 in Aire-la-Ville ) was a Swiss painter .

Life

Hans Berger was born in Biel in 1882 as the son of watch worker Johann Josef Berger. From 1896 he lived in Geneva , where he attended the Progymnasium in order to then begin an apprenticeship in an architecture office and drawing lessons at the École des Beaux-Arts from 1898 to 1902. He then moved to Paris , where he became friends with Alexandre Blanchet . From 1908 he started painting. A year later he was able to win 3rd prize in the Concours Diday in Geneva. In 1910 he traveled to France . A year later, the first solo exhibition of his works was presented in the Musée Rath . Ferdinand Hodler bought his picture Humility . In 1924 he moved to Aire-la-Ville and traveled to Provence and Tuscany as well as Greece , Sicily and Spain . Jakob Probst made a portrait (half length) of Hans Berger . Hans Berger, who had been married to Emilie (nee Meier) since 1914, died in Aire-la-Ville in 1977.

Act

In his work you can see an independence from the artistic currents such as cubism or futurism of his time. His main focus was on landscape motifs and pure painting .
