Live and act

Bergler came from a very humble background, but was able to attend high school in his home town, supported by the whole family. After he had successfully passed the Matura (Abitur), he began to study at the university .

During his student days, Bergler was able to make his debut as a journalist with several essays and articles. He fell on the writer Fedor Mamroth (1851-1907) and the bookseller Eduard Hügel (1816-1887), which encouraged him in his career aspiration as a journalist . With the support of the two, Bergler got jobs with several Austrian newspapers after his studies.

Eventually Bergler advanced to the feature writer of the Wiener Allgemeine Zeitung and remained so until 1888. With effect from May 1, 1890, he moved to the editorial team of the Deutsche Zeitung as a theater critic and at the end of October 1893 to the same department of the newly founded New Vienna Journal , of which he was editor December 2, 1894 to September 27, 1898 he was.

The writer and journalist Hans Bergler died on July 29, 1912 in Vienna at the age of 53.

Bergler mostly wrote his literary work under the pseudonym Ottokar Tann-Bergler , in contrast to his purely journalistic works, which appeared under his real name. In his books, Bergler shows himself to be a close observer of life in Vienna. In addition to many types and characters, the figure of Herr von Pomeisl has survived to this day. Some of his taunts and sketches have also been successfully staged on various stages in Vienna.

In 1960 the Berglergasse in Vienna- Floridsdorf (21st district) was named after him.
