Hans Brentel the Younger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Brentel the Younger (actually Johannes Brentel ; * August 8, 1578 in Lauingen ; † 1626 ibid) was a Swabian card painter and minstrel . He was a son of the map painter Hans Brentel and the older brother of the painter and sundial maker Georg Brentel the Younger .

Life

Hans Brentel learned his trade from his father. On June 26, 1599, he married Margaret Lautenschlager from Lauingen. From then on he was liable for tax and lived in Kornhausgasse until 1612 . 1614-1615 he lived in the Bitterlinsgasse and since 1616 Uffm market . What is striking about him is his musical talent: in addition to his main job as a card painter, he was a minstrel. He passed on his musical talent to all of his four sons, who also became musicians.
