Hans Clauert , older spelling Clawert , called the Märkische Eulenspiegel (* around 1506, † 1566 ) was a citizen of the city of Trebbin and appeared mainly through numerous rascals.

Life

Clauert was born the son of Peter Clauert. He learned in Zerbst / Anhalt the profession of locksmith and then went on pilgrimage to him as far as Hungary led. Finally he returned to Trebbin, gave up his learned trade and worked as a cattle dealer . However, he lost the winnings achieved in this way several times while playing cards and gambling. This led to a dispute with a wife Margaret, who sued him before the Elector Joachim II . The ruler, who was staying in Berlin at the time, ordered the rogue to come to him, who was soon able to make himself popular at the court through clever intelligence. Clauert was now often invited to court festivities at the electoral palace, where he did his funny pranks, which is why he was also known as the Berliner Eulenspiegel . Hans Clauert died of the plague in 1566 .

Literary work

By Bartholomew Krüger , the town clerk of Trebbin, Hans Clauert was a hero Fluctuating Romans made. In 1587, the pranks by Hans Clauert first appeared in Berlin . The fact that Clauert did not become as well known as the famous Till Eulenspiegel is probably due to the fact that later prints found little or regional distribution. But in the areas where Clauert played his jokes, there are quite a few streets that bear his name. Last but not least, authors in the 20th and 21st centuries also picked up on the stories about the joker Hans Clauert, such as Klabund in his novel Bracke (1918), Johannes Bobrowski or Peter J. Fabich in seven works between 2008 and 2016.
