Hans Ernst zu Wied-Runkel (born May 1, 1623 ; † July 7, 1664 in Stettin ) was a German military and court official, and from 1653 to 1664 ruling count of the Upper County of Wied (Wied-Runkel).

Life

He is the son of Hermann II zu Wied-Runkel and his wife Juliane Elisabeth von Solms-Lich zu Hohensolms. Count Philipp Reinhard von Solms-Lich zu Hohensolms is his mother's brother. With his uncle he later became a member of the Fruitful Society .

Apart from his upbringing in the Reformed faith, very little is known about his childhood and youth.

He was a court official in the wake of his employer, Landgrave Johann von Hessen-Braubach , when he was accepted into the Fruitful Society with him. Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen performed the admission rite , who also gave him the company name of smoking and the motto promotes sleep . The sleeping coin on a wild rose bush ( Rosa canina L. ) was given to him as an emblem. His entry can be found in the Koethen Society Register under no. 330. There is also the rhyme law noted, which he wrote on the occasion of his admission:

Slackers grow out of wild rose bushes,
You can find them in the field in the green hedges,
They promote the slack, the kerkff, as well as the agitated
You heal, and I have been laid for
The use of smoke because they are made like this:
Man excessive but never should sleep in laziness
Be particularly brave, and be quiet in comfort,
All expected the fruit of God's grace and goodness.

In May 1652 he married a daughter of Count Ludwig Christoph von Everstein in Naugard and Massow, Hedwig Eleonore.

For some time he led a cavalry regiment for Hessen-Kassel . But he soon retired from this position for financial reasons.

From 1653, as heir to his brother Moritz Christian zu Wied-Runkel , he was briefly entrusted with the government of the heavily indebted County of Wied-Runkel. But he spent most of his life on his wife's extensive estates in Pomerania .

He died in Szczecin on July 7th, 1664 at the age of 41. His son Ludwig Friedrich inherited the county of Wied-Runkel from him, which he passed on to his paternal uncle, Friedrich III. sold. His daughter Juliana Margareta died in 1657, the year she was born.
