Hans Freudenberg (engineer)

Hans Freudenberg (born March 29, 1888 in Weinheim ; † October 2, 1966 ) was a German engineer . He was one of the outstanding engineers and entrepreneurs in the Freudenberg family ( Freudenberg Group ).

He studied electrical engineering in Munich and came to the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1912 . After being an assistant at the Electrotechnical Institute, he joined the leather factory of his ancestors in Weinheim. He remained connected to the TH Karlsruhe all his life. In 1925 he became an honorary senator and in 1948 he was awarded the title of Dr.-Engineer by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in recognition of his services to the use and fabrication of plastics for a variety of purposes. a. also technical, application areas and for his advice and support in research and teaching.

During the Second World War, the technical universities of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart were each about half destroyed and so after the war it was considered to unite the two. Hans Freudenberg, who had become chairman of the Karlsruhe University Association in 1948, campaigned for the Karlsruhe University to remain independent and to be rebuilt as quickly as possible. He cared about all of higher education and was associated with several colleges and universities. The Technical University of Hanover awarded him the title of Honorary Senator. He also initiated the establishment of a student residence hall in Karlsruhe, which still bears his name today, the Hans-Freudenberg-Kolleg . In 1953 Freudenberg became an honorary citizen of Weinheim and a school was named after him.
