Hans Frost (born February 13, 1904 in Görlitz , † February 26, 1975 in Berlin-Spandau ; pseudonym: Helada ) was a German painter , graphic artist and illustrator . He was a student of the impressionist Max Slevogt and the Bohemian painter Emil Orlik , and was a founding member and chairman of the board of the artists' association "Die Mitte".

Life

At a young age he discovered his talent and began to dedicate his life to art. Even when he was under 20, his works had a quality that made him a respected artist.

While his youth were marked by realistic portraits of his experiences, his art changed in a direction of its own after he completed his training with Max Slevogt and Emil Orlik . From then on he painted with a more self-confident self-will and the courage to use new techniques.

He spent most of his life in Berlin. Especially in Falkensee and Spandau he found an environment that inspired him. After a long stay in Spain, however, he also returned here regularly.

Artists' Association "Die Mitte"

At the age of 51, Frost founded the artists' association Die Mitte , which included artists such as the Berlin animal painter Wilhelm Hübner Lauenburg . From then on, the association, consisting primarily of Berlin artists, exhibited together regularly. Works by Max Slevogt could also be found in some exhibitions.
