Johann Holzapfel (baptized December 12, 1678 in Prittriching , † November 18, 1747 in Bobingen ) was a German master mason and builder of the Baroque period.

Johann Holzapfel was a member of an old, extensive family of bricklayers and was born in Prittriching, Upper Bavaria, as the eldest son of master bricklayer Georg Holzapfel († 1704) and Barbara born. Müller († 1694), the daughter of the Bobingen shoemaker Christoph Müller († 1676), was born. The family later moved to Bobingen. There his father was involved in measures to convert the St. Wolfgang and Wendelin .

Holzapfel probably learned the mason trade from his father and passed the master craftsman examination. He was mainly known as a builder of sacred buildings in the Augsburg area. His main work is the rebuilding of the nave and choir of the parish church of St. Stephan in Hainhofen , which he was commissioned to do in 1718. Holzapfel died in Bobingen in 1747 at the age of 68. His younger brother was the master mason Martin Holzapfel (1683-1752), who in 1719 led the renovation and Baroque renovation of the parish church of St. Felizitas in Bobingen.

family

Johann Holzapfel married Magdalena Müller from Bobingen (1679-1717) in their first marriage in 1704, in their second marriage in 1717 Theresia Zech († 1729) from Bobingen and in their third marriage in 1730 Susanna Obert from Augsburg († 1749). The marriages produced 14 children, including:

  • Joseph (* 1706), resident in Oberottmarshausen; ⚭ Maria.
  • Georg (* 1707), landlord in Oberottmarshausen.
  • Anna Maria (* 1708), ⚭ Joseph Söldner
  • Johann (1711–1784), master mason in Mertingen; 1. around 1733 Barbara († 1757); 2. 1758 Theresia Bertenbreiter († 1766); 3. 1767 Franziska Kratzer († 1792).
  • Lampert (1713–1738), died single in Mertingen.
  • Kilian (* 1720), took over his father's Sölde in Bobingen in 1746.
