Hainhofen is a parish village and district of the city of Neusäß in the Swabian district of Augsburg in Bavaria ( Germany ) and is located on the Schmutter . Hainhofen Castle is of supraregional importance .

history

The first evidence of the existence of a place called “De Hein” (von Hein) comes from the 12th century. In 1276 the place was then called "Haienhoven". The meaning of the name cannot be determined exactly, but there are two interpretations. Wolf-Armin von Reitzenstein sees a connection with the Middle High German terms “hagen” and “hain” for “small forest”. It was only later that the plural of the word "Hof" was added to the original field name. According to Reitzenstein, Hainhofen means “farms in a small forest”. Walter Pötzl sees it differently, because he assumes a person named "Hago" or "Hagino". Hainhofen would therefore be called "at the courts of Hago".

Hainhofen was an independent municipality. As part of the regional reform in Bavaria on July 1, 1972, it merged with Neusäß and three other municipalities to form the new Neusäß municipality.

"Swabian Kingdom of Heaven"

Mariengrotte on the way to the "Swabian Kingdom of Heaven"

To the west of Hainhofen is a forest known as the "Swabian Kingdom of Heaven". He gave the name to a summer cellar for lager beer, which was built here in the 17th century , and which was still very popular in the 19th century and attracted crowds of Augsburgers in the summer. A ravine , which was originally a byway of the Roman road Augsburg-Günzburg, leads from the village to the inn and further into the forest. It begins to the left of the church and leads under Schwibbogen . A former brewery owner built a Marian grotto along the way. Today the former restaurant is used as a wine cellar.

Parish of Saint Stephen

The Catholic parish Sankt Stephanus in Hainhofen belongs to the deanery Augsburg-Land in the diocese of Augsburg . The parish also includes the villages of Kobel , Schlipsheim and Schmutterhaus.
