St. Felizitas Church in Bobingen

The listed church of St. Felizitas is the catholic town parish church of Bobingen and the parish community of Bobingen.

history

The parish is one of the original parishes of the Franconian church system. Originally Maria was the patroness of the parish, but the patronage was changed to Saint Felicitas , possibly by Bishop Ulrich († 973), documented from 1468.

A document from 1180 confirms that the history of the Bobinger Church goes back at least to 1090. The current church building was built in the 13th century in the Romanesque style and enlarged in the 15th century in the Gothic style. This construction measure consisted of a widening to the north, an elevation of the nave, the addition of the choir to the east and the elevation of the church tower. The interior decoration was baroque in the 18th century and later (in the 19th century) regothic. During the major interior renovations between 1941 and 1946, the church interior received its current neo-baroque altars. After the last renovation in 1980–1982, a new popular altar was installed and consecrated, in which there are relics of St. Vincent de Paul.

Furnishing

Altars

The new high altar comes from the Munich sculptor Hans Miller. The altarpiece shows the painting "Jesu Lanzenstich", a copy made by August Kröninger after Peter Paul Rubens (for the Franciscan Church in Antwerp). Five old Baroque figures, the four Latin church fathers and the patroness St. Felizitas have also been preserved. The altarpiece on the right side altar is a copy of the painting of St. Wendelin by Peter Candid in the Mindelheim parish church (also by August Kröninger). The left altarpiece of the side altar shows Mary as Mater Romana (in the style of an El Greco Madonna, painted by Toni Roth ). The popular altar , the ambo , the Easter candlestick and the stand for the eternal light were designed by the Munich sculptor Klaus Backmund in the 1980s.

crib

In the church every year at Christmas time a baroque nativity scene from the 18th century is set up on the right side altar. The original Jesus child from this time has unfortunately been lost, today a Christ child made of wax replaces it.

Holy grave

Every year in the week before Easter a holy grave is placed in the parish church. The body (= body of Jesus) was probably designed by the Landsberg sculptor Lorenz Luidl .

Others

The Pieta on the left in the choir was also designed by Lorenz Luidl.

Churchyard

Until the beginning of the 20th century, the entire churchyard was a Catholic cemetery, it became too full over time and permission was given to consecrate a new municipal cemetery on today's Maria - Hilf - Straße.

In front of the church there is a war memorial , a large cross, and the Peace Chapel, which was built under Pastor Oskar Müller.

On the west side there is a baroque figure of the scourged Savior in the dungeon, in 2017 he and the two niches next to it were restored and repainted.
