Hans G. Klemm (* 1958 in Dearborn , Michigan , United States ) is an American diplomat.

Career

Klemm received a bachelor's degree in history and economics from Indiana University in 1980. The following year he joined the Foreign Service. There he worked in various positions in Port of Spain ( Trinidad and Tobago ), Bonn and Seoul . Then he paused his professional life to study at Stanford . Here he received a Master of Arts degree in international development policy in 1996.

Back in the State Department , Klemm worked from 2000 as Deputy Director of the Office of European Union and Regional Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs . In 2001 he became director of the Office of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Textile Trade Affairs in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs . In 2003, Klemm stopped again to complete the senior seminar at the Foreign Service Institute . In 2004 he returned as deputy director and later director of the Office of Career Development in the Bureau of Human Resources .

In 2006, Klemm became Envoy Counselor at the US Embassy in Tokyo . The following year he was appointed the new ambassador to East Timor . He served there from June 12 until May 25, 2010. In July, Klemm went to the Embassy in Kabul as Senior Coordinator for Rule of Law and Law Enforcement . In 2012 he returned to the United States and became Senior Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs . In July, Klemm was named first assistant secretary of state to the Bureau of Human Resources . There he was temporarily managing director general of the Foreign Service. On March 25, 2015, Klemm was appointed Ambassador of the United States to Romania . He submitted his accreditation to Romania's President Klaus Johannis on September 21, 2015.
