from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Georg von Schnering (born July 6, 1931 in Ranis ; † July 22, 2010 in Aidlingen ) was a German chemist and professor of inorganic chemistry at the University of Münster, Hon. Professor at the University of Stuttgart and director at the Max Planck Institute for solid state research.

Life

Born in 1931 as the son of a doctor, Schnering initially trained as a baker before studying chemistry at the University of Münster in 1951 . He completed his diploma thesis in 1958 with Wilhelm Klemm , and received his doctorate two years later with Rudolf Hoppe . Schnering completed his habilitation in 1964 at the University of Münster with the title "Contributions to the chemistry of binary and ternary halogen and oxo compounds of metals".

In 1966 he became a full professor for special inorganic chemistry at the University of Münster , and in 1975 he was appointed director at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart. From 1990 until his retirement in 1997 he was a professor at the University of Frankfurt . Schnering died in Aidlingen in 2010.

research

General areas of work were structural and solid-state chemistry. Special contributions were made in the field of structural chemistry of compounds with metal-metal bonds, as well as on reactions of base metals with the elements of the 13th-16th centuries. Group. Furthermore, contributions have been made to reactions of polyanions with solids, high-temperature superconductors and valence electron densities.
