Hans Gerhard Maier

Hans Gerhard Maier (born March 27, 1932 in Heilbronn ) is a German food chemist who is a professor emeritus at the TU Braunschweig . Maier has presented numerous publications on the ingredients and aromas of coffee .

Life

Hans Gerhard Maier first studied pharmacy in Freiburg (Breisgau) and then chemistry and food chemistry at the University of Frankfurt . In 1961 he did his doctorate at the University of Frankfurt with the thesis "The solubility of tartar in wine and the treatment of wines with cation exchangers". Between 1961 and 1963 he initially worked in industry at the "Unifranck" company in Ludwigsburg .

He returned to the University of Frankfurt and completed his habilitation in 1969 with a thesis "On the binding of volatile aromatic substances to solids". Maier was then a lecturer and professor at the University of Frankfurt between 1970 and 1971, then from 1972 to 1973 scientific advisor and professor at the University of Münster and from 1974 until his retirement in 1997 managing director of the Institute for Food Chemistry at the TU Braunschweig.

Between 1973 and 1980 he turned down offers to the Vienna Technical University and the universities of Frankfurt and Karlsruhe.
