from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Gugger (born February 26, 1921 in Gysenstein , Konolfingen , † April 5, 2006 in Ittigen ) was a Swiss part- time historian who particularly distinguished himself as a researcher of Bernese culture and local history.

Life

Gugger, the son of a teacher, had a talent for drawing and a keen sense for technology. In addition to his professional activity, he trained in the various types and techniques of visual design and dealt with art history .

The career path from apprentice to director in the publishing industry, which has been shaped by revolutionary technological innovations over the last few decades, indicates Gugger's creative power and ability to develop new things. Gugger worked for half a century in today's Stämpfli Publications AG.

After years of research into the history and development of the young community of Ittigen, he wrote the first comprehensive book about his place of residence in 1998. With this presentation of Ittigen's history, Hans Gugger opened countless sources and archives.

In addition, Gugger found an expanded field of work in studying the development of organ building , which also suited his love of music. He visited churches all over Switzerland and found many research objects in private homes. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern for his major and fundamental work on the Bernese organs, and in 1998 he received the Justinger Medal of the historical association for his services to research into the cultural assets of the Canton of Bern .

Hans Gugger was co-founder, singer and long-time president of the "Singkreis Ittigen", which was dissolved in 2003 after 38 years of existence.
