Hans Joachim Oeffler (born April 9, 1930 , † August 23, 2005 in Homburg ) was a German Protestant pastor and author .

Life

Oeffler came from a Protestant parsonage . Like his father, he studied Protestant theology and was ordained pastor of the Palatinate Evangelical Church . Already during his student days he, who had heard the dogmatic lectures of the theologian Karl Barth , made contact with him and remained in correspondence with him for many years. He did not accept a doctoral thesis on Luther's understanding of baptism offered by Barth . Oeffler had close contact with Martin Niemöller and became his biographer . He was a member of the communist front organization Christian Peace Conference and has participated in its study and public relations work since it was founded. From 1985 to 1989 he was one of its 15 Vice Presidents. As a pastor, he was in charge of the Siegelbach parish , in which he served until his retirement. Until 1982, Oeffler also looked after Rodenbach .

In 1977 Oeffler was one of the founders of the Martin Niemöller Foundation , along with Niemöller's sons , which endeavors to spread Niemöller's attitude and insights. His friend, Pastor Winfried Anslinger, gave the sermon at his funeral in Homburg.
