Siegelbach is a north-western district of Kaiserslautern . Until 1969 it was an independent community.

Geographical location

The Siegelbach district is located about 7 km from the center of Kaiserslautern and is surrounded by the Landstuhler Bruch in the west, the Palatinate Forest in the southeast and the North Palatinate Bergland in the north. Neighboring places are the municipality of Rodenbach in the west, the Erfenbach district in the east and the Kaiserslautern core city in the southeast.

Elevations and waters

The 281.5 meter high Rotenberg stretches north of the village . The Frauenwiesbach rises to the west of the village and then flows in an easterly direction through the middle of the settlement area.

Siegelbach lies within the temperate climate zone with precipitation in all seasons. Compared to other regions in Germany , Siegelbach has a very warm and very sunny climate. Due to the location in the lee of the Hunsrück and Eifel , precipitation is usually withheld in north-west weather conditions.

history

Siegelbach was first mentioned in a document in 1233. At that time the village was owned by the Lords of Hoheneck at Hohenecken Castle . One of them was called Siegfried: the name of the village goes back to him, as his Middle High German nickname was Sigelîn (Siggilein) and that is how Sigelînbach came about. Syncopated , the village appears in the documents in the 14th century as Siglnbach . Later the place belonged to the Electoral Palatinate until the end of the 18th century .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Siegelbach was incorporated into the canton of Kaiserslautern and was subordinate to the Mairie Weilerbach . In 1815 the community had a total of 293 inhabitants. In the same year the municipality of Austria was struck. Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 he was a member of the Land Commissioner in Kaiserslautern ; from this the district office of Kaiserslautern emerged.

From 1939 Siegelbach was part of the Kaiserslautern district . After the Second World War , the place became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the community was incorporated into the independent city of Kaiserslautern on June 7, 1969, leaving the district of the same name. At the end of 2004 Siegelbach had a total of 2,706 inhabitants.

The current mayor Gerd Hach of the SPD has been in office since 2013. He was confirmed in his position in the direct election on May 26, 2019 with a share of 62.38% of the votes.

The first mayor of the community was Andreas Hach IV, who was in office from 1903 to 1919. In 1969 the mayor changed to mayor, Bernhard Schwehm was mayor from 1956 to 1969.

There are a total spot four objects under monument protection standing, including the Art Nouveau built Protestant church from 1907; The architect of the church was Ludwig Levy .

In Siegelbach is the the Business and Innovation Center , abbreviated BIC . It is an industrial park in which mainly IT companies are located. There are two bakeries, a butcher, two savings bank branches and a small grocery store in the village.

education

Siegelbach has a Protestant kindergarten and a Christian private school, the Paul Gerhardt School in Kaiserslautern . This is a state-recognized elementary and secondary school plus. The district also has a branch of the Kaiserslautern City Library.

traffic

From 1912 to 1972 Siegelbach was connected to the rail network via the so-called Bachbahn , which ran from the Lampertsmühle-Otterbach station to Weilerbach and from 1920 to Reichenbach. Siegelbach can be reached via a junction to the federal motorway 6, which runs south of the village (exit Kaiserslautern-West), two exits on the federal highway 270 to the east and from the neighboring municipality of Rodenbach.

The town can be reached by bus using the following lines: 101, 139, 140 and 141. Line 101 is served by Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern (SWK) . Lines 139, 140 and 141 are taken over by Saar-Pfalz-Bus GmbH .

Other facilities

Health care is supported by a group practice for general medicine, a dentist and two physiotherapists. The district is also home to the Kaiserslautern Zoo , which was called the Siegelbach Zoo until 2003 . Since 2019 Siegelbach has also had a facility in which senior citizens can be cared for or where they can live.
