Location of Erlenbach in Rhineland-Palatinate

Erlenbach is a district of Kaiserslautern . Until 1969 it was an independent community.

geography

Erlenbach is elevated in the north of the city and borders the city of Otterberg to the north . The structure of the place is divided into four parts: the old town center, the Gersweilerhof as its own closed development, the Husarenäcker building area, which was built in the 1970s and 1980s, and the new Osterberg building area. In addition, the district includes the residential areas of the train station Erlenbach , Im Hagelgrund , Hasendell , Raupenthal , Turnhalle and Wiesenthal . The Erlenbach , a left tributary of the Otterbach, flows through the village . The latter forms the boundary to Otterberg in the northwest.

history

The first mentions of the place go back to the 12th century . Several pieces of land from Erlenbach were given to the Cistercian monastery of Otterberg by Emperor Otto IV . These donations were first mentioned in a document in 1159. Until the end of the 18th century the place belonged to the Electoral Palatinate .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Erlenbach was incorporated into the Canton of Kaiserslautern and was subordinate to the Mairie Kaiserslautern . In 1815 the community had a total of 312 inhabitants. In the same year the municipality of Austria was struck. Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 he was a member of the Land Commissioner in Kaiserslautern ; from this the district office of Kaiserslautern emerged.

From 1939 the community was part of the Kaiserslautern district . After the Second World War , Erlenbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the community was incorporated into the independent city of Kaiserslautern on June 7, 1969, leaving the district of the same name. Since then Erlenbach has formed a local district. At the end of 2004 Erlenbach had a total of 2,487 inhabitants.
