The settlement is named after the Kaiserslautern entrepreneur Karl Pfaff , the grandson of the founder of Pfaff sewing machines , who died in 1952. In 1953, by resolution of the general meeting of the sewing machine factory, no dividend was paid out and instead, with a reserve of 750,000 marks, the construction of a factory settlement in the immediate vicinity of the Pfaffwerk began. Construction began on September 11, 1953, and the first houses could already be occupied on July 29, 1954. Financing was provided by Pfaff AG handing out loan books to all members of the workforce with accounts receivable from the company, graded according to the length of time they were with the company. 160 single-family houses, semi-detached houses or blocks of three were built with a garden bordered by privet hedges . The settlement is a typical example of the construction method of this time due to the loosened up single-family houses . There is direct access to the Pfaffwerk via a closed pedestrian bridge .
