The Kaiserberg in Kaiserslautern is a local recreation area and forms a natural barrier in the course of the Lautertal. With a height of 290  m above sea level. NN it towers above the Lauter by 60 meters.

use

The western slope of the Kaiserberg was used as a quarry in the middle of the 19th century. After his abandonment, the area of the quarry base was used as a storage area for a building materials store. After 1987 a secondary biotope with bushes and trees was created, which is of great importance as a refuge for birds, reptiles and bats.

In addition to agriculture, the plateau was used for ice production in winter in the 19th century. Shallow hollows were filled with water, which froze quickly. The crushed pieces of ice were then stored in cellars and tunnels built into the mountain especially for the brewing industry to cool the beer. The entrance to a beer cellar is still located on the eastern slope of the Kaiserberg.

Above the edge of the quarry, there is a bird sanctuary with a size of around 7.5 ha , which was founded around 1960 and is also a natural monument . Today's bird sanctuary was laid out in the 19th century as a villa park by the Kröckel industrialist family.

Current situation

Today part of the Kaiserslautern Garden Show is on the Kaiserberg. The Vocational School I - Technology is located above the garden show .
