Hans Küne (Mint Master)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Küne also Köhne , Kühne or Khünen ; (* before 1556 ; † 1570 ) was a ducal Brunswick-Lüneburg mint master in Goslar .

Life

In 1556, Hans Küne became the first mint master of the local mint, which had only recently been moved to Goslar and which had been set up in the monastery building at St. Vitustor. Küne held his post in Goslar only a few years until he was replaced by Lazarus Erker in 1563 . However, since the latter had apparently misused his art for himself, Küne soon took over the duties of the Goslar mint master again in 1565 and until his death in 1570. During this time he was assisted by the Münzwardein Georg Stumpfelt (or Georg Stumpfeldt), who worked in Goslar from 1564 to 1570 .

The mint mark Künes consisted - similar to that of his son - of a double cross, but with two cross bars.

Küne's successor was his son Andreas Küne in 1570 .
