Hans Karl LaRondelle (* 18th April 1929 in the Netherlands , † 7. March 2011 in Sarasota , Florida ) was a Dutch-American systematic theologian of the Free Church of Seventh-day Adventist Church .

Education

Hans LaRondelle initially studied law at the University of Leiden , until reading the book The Great Controversy by Adventist pioneer Ellen G. White in 1949 led him to convert and finally to drop out of law school. LaRondelle then attended a Dutch Adventist seminar and then worked as a pastor and evangelist , while studying philosophy and Hebrew at the University of Utrecht . At the suggestion of William Gordon Campbell Murdoch (1902-1983), then director of Newbold College in Bracknell , Berkshire , he began studying at the Free University in Amsterdam in 1960 with Gerrit Cornelis Berkouwer and Nicolaas Herman Ridderbos . When he was sent by the Dutch Association as a delegate to the general conference in Detroit in 1966, he made the decision to continue studying at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University in Berrien Springs , Michigan. In 1967 he took over the continuation of a major lecture by Edward Heppenstall (1901-1994), which was temporarily canceled due to illness. A scholarship and exemption from the faculty enabled him to resume studies with Gerrit Cornelis Berkouwer in Amsterdam in 1969, which finally led him to his doctorate in 1971 . The title of the work is Perfection and Perfectionism .

activity

From 1953 to 1966, LaRondelle was an Adventist pastor and evangelist in the Netherlands. In 1962 he became the preacher ordained . From 1967 until his retirement in 1991, LaRondelle worked as a professor of systematic theology at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. As a biblical theologian , he kept the questions of fundamental theology in the background. In the last two decades he has made a number of lecture tours, for which purpose he also came to Germany regularly in the 1990s. In addition, between 1994 and 1998 he took part in bilateral talks between the Lutheran World Federation and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the constituent meeting of which took place from November 1st to 5th, 1994 in Darmstadt. His contribution, presented in the subsequent consultation from June 17-21 , 1996 in Mississauga near Toronto , referred to the relationship between the doctrine of justification and moral responsibility in the context of the Last Judgment .

Scientific theology has so far not been able to find an all-satisfactory agreement here. [...] Only a responsible exegesis of Scripture does justice to divine revelation.
