Hans Klein (theologian)

Hans Klein (born November 9, 1940 in Hermannstadt ) is a Romanian Evangelical Lutheran theologian (New Testament scholar) and politician who belongs to the Transylvanian Saxons , a German-speaking minority in Romania .

Life

Klein, a son of the future Bishop Albert Klein , became pastor in Lugosch in 1963 and pastor in Deutsch-Kreuz in 1966 after studying Protestant theology in Sibiu and the vicariate in Liebling ( Banat ) and ordination . In 1972 he was promoted to Dr. theol. doctorate and appointed as a lecturer for the Old Testament and the history of religion at the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Sibiu. From 1982 until his retirement in 2010 he worked at the faculty that has since become Lucian Blaga University heard as a professor of New Testament. As a part-time job, he served as pastor of Sibiu from 1993 to 1998 and as episcopal vicar of the Evangelical Church AB in Romania from 1994 to 2007 . His main area of research is the Gospel of Luke , on which he published an extensive commentary in 2006.

In 1989, Klein was one of the founders of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania , in which Romanian Germans organized themselves politically. There he worked as chairman from 1992 to 1995 and was a member of the Sibiu City Council from 1992 to 2011, and at times also of the District Council in Sibiu County . In 2003 he was awarded the Golden Honorary Coat of Arms of the Transylvanian Landsmannschaft. He will chair the Sibiu Group of the German Forum until March 2018. Hans Klein is married and has two daughters and two sons, both of whom are also pastors in Romania.
