Hans Kurt Brandt
Hans Kurt Brandt (born May 21, 1911 in Magdeburg , † after 1949, probably in Yugoslavia ) was a German legal scholar.
Life
Brandt was an orphan from the age of 4. The father Johannes (Hans) Brandt was a graduate engineer and died or fell in 1915 at the age of 36. Three years earlier, the mother Gertrud died on the day before her 22nd birthday.
Hans Brandt attended the Kaiser-Friedrichs-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main. After graduating from high school on March 10, 1929, he studied law and political science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . On February 22, 1930 he was reciprocated in the Corps Palaio-Alsatia . He spent the winter semester of 1931/32 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1933 he passed the first state examination. As a trainee lawyer in the justice administration of the Free State of Prussia , he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. On September 8, 1937, he passed the assessor examination in Kiel ("commendable"). In May 1938 he married Charlotte Eichner, a graduate economist from Neuhof in the Striegau district . After two years in Göttingen, he went to the University of Leipzig , where he completed his habilitation in 1939 . At the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel since 1940 , he was appointed full professor on May 1st, 1940 and full professor for modern legal history , civil law and civil procedure law in 1941 . During the Second World War he was taken prisoner of war in Yugoslavia. With the prisoner number 238023 he was imprisoned in camp 233 in Vršac , Vojvodina. Following affidavits from comrades who had returned, Brandt was taken to the Vršac train station on January 11, 1949, under guard, and transported to Belgrade. The last letter to his wife is dated March 3, 1949. Since he did not return from Yugoslavia, he was declared dead retrospectively to December 31, 1952 (in Kiel) in 1959. His marriage has two sons.
