Hans Laucht

Hans Laucht (born August 1, 1915 in Danzig ; † May 6, 2003 ) was a German engineer and port construction director in Hamburg from 1974 to 1979.

Laucht passed his diploma examination in 1937. After the Second World War he entered the service of the Hamburg Office for Electricity and Harbor Construction in 1945, and in 1956 he received his doctorate in Hanover with the thesis “Condition and development possibilities of the Hamburg river splitting area of ​​the Elbe”. His professional advancement began in the same year when he took over the management of the planning department. In 1961 he became head of the electricity construction department, although his time there was marked by the storm surge in 1962 . Hans Laucht earned merits in the restoration of the dike security on the Old Southern Elbe, which began immediately afterwards . Just eight weeks after the storm surge, the area on the Alte Süderelbe was closed on both sides. In 1974 he was appointed honorary professor at the TU Berlin .

During his tenure as port construction director, the construction of the Hansaport , the flood protection measures after the second January flood in 1976 and the opening of the Elbe Lateral Canal fell . He also played a leading role in the planning of the failed deep-water port in Scharhörn .
