Hans Leo (medic)

Hans Leo (born March 27, 1854 in Regenwalde , Pomerania ; † September 30, 1927 in Bonn ) was a German physician and pharmacologist .

Life

Hans Leo, the son of the doctor Ludwig Friedrich Leo , grew up in Bonn, where his family had moved in the year he was born. In Bonn he attended the Royal High School and then studied natural sciences and medicine in Göttingen (1873–1874) and Bonn (1874–1876). During his studies in Göttingen he became a member of the Brunsviga fraternity in 1873 . During his studies he turned to pharmacology, which later became his specialty; he also focused on chemistry and physiology. After receiving his doctorate in 1876, he worked in the Bonn University Hospital.

In 1890 Leo was appointed head of the medical polyclinic and at the same time associate professor at the University of Bonn. In 1913 he was given a full chair in pharmacology (as the successor to Carl Binz ), which he held until his death. From 1914 to 1916, Leo took part in the First World War at an advanced age .
