Ludwig Friedrich Leo
Ludwig Friedrich Leo (birth name Lev Levin , first name Ludwig Levin , born May 27, 1814 in Königsberg , † July 5, 1892 in Bonn ) was a German physician.
He was the son of the Jewish merchant Joel Levin, who later took the name Julius Leo ; his mother was Margarete geb. Sharpener. Ludwig Levin studied at the universities of Berlin , Koenigsberg and Halle , where he became a PhD student in 1837 as a student of Peter Krukenberg. med. received his doctorate . In his dissertation nonnulla de perforatione obstetricia he treated various methods of obstetrics . After graduation he worked as a doctor in Pomerania: from 1838 to 1841 in Treptow an der Rega , from 1841 to 1854 in Regenwalde . There he was baptized Protestant in 1843 and later married the Königsberg merchant's daughter Bertha Rosenheim (1819–1887), who also came from a Jewish family.
In 1854 Leo moved with his family to Bonn, where he worked on the inner ward of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Hospital. In 1873 he was appointed to the Privy Medical Council and in 1876 to the District Physician . He was the secretary of the Niederrheinische Gesellschaft für Natur- und Heilkunde and wrote several medical articles as well as his health studies for educated readers (Berlin 1866).
Leo's children included the classical philologist Friedrich Leo (1851-1914) and the physician Hans Leo (1854-1927).
