Hans Leonhard

Hans Leonhard , also documented as Hans Levyson (born September 12, 1902 in Berlin ; † December 8, 1966 ibid) was a German journalist .

Life

Hans Leonhard was the son of the actress Ila Grübers and the composer and bandmaster Hugo Leonhard as well as the grandson of the clothing manufacturer Markus Levysohn and the nephew of Rudolf Leonhard . Hans Leonhard started a traineeship at Die Weltbühne under Siegfried Jacobsohn following the tenth grade in 1920 . He then worked for a music publisher, for which he traveled across Europe until 1932. His tasks were to popularize hits, to market records and to organize concerts in large cities. His biggest hit was When the White Lilac Blooms Again .It was he who made him known internationally, and his biggest breakthrough came in London, where he rented and sold out England's largest concert hall. After 1933 he was persecuted for racist reasons, employed as a warehouse worker in a map printing company and was a neighbor of Maud von Ossietzky .

In 1945 he joined the Communist Party of Germany and was transferred to the SED in 1946. In 1945 he became head of the ration card office and then headed the health department in the Berlin-Pankow district office .

With Maud von Ossietzky , he published Die Weltbühne from 1946 to 1966 .

Hermann Budzislawski took over Die Weltbühne again from 1967 to 1971 .
