Hans Lisken

Hans F. Lisken (born February 21, 1931 in Düsseldorf ; † February 3, 2004 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and police chief .

Life

After his legal training and doctorate as Dr. jur. Hans Lisken initially worked as a judge from 1960 to 1980, most recently as presiding judge at the Düsseldorf Regional Court. From 1976 to 1979 he was seconded to the Federal Constitutional Court as a research assistant . In 1981 he was appointed police chief of his hometown Düsseldorf. Lisken held this position until his age-related retirement in 1996. He then settled in Düsseldorf as a lawyer.

From 1968 he worked as a lecturer in the training of police and lawyers, most recently as honorary professor at the law faculty of Heinrich Heine University . As an expert on constitutional and police law, Hans Lisken wrote numerous articles in specialist magazines and daily newspapers, a selection of which is contained in the book Rechtsstaat - what else? have been published in summary. In addition, Lisken, together with Erhard Denninger, has been the publisher and author of the standard work Handbuch des Polizeirechts , which continues to appear under his name, since 1992 .

Hans Lisken died on February 3, 2004 in Dresden, after he had collapsed with a heart attack on January 29, 2004 after a hearing as an expert in the Saxon state parliament .

Awards

In 1995 Hans Lisken received the Fritz Bauer Prize of the Humanist Union . The laudator, Bundestag Vice President Burkhard Hirsch , acknowledged that Lisken had fearlessly and uncomfortably vouched for the freedom of the individual and for a humane society in teaching and practice.
