Hans Matschak

Hans Matschak (born April 28, 1901 in Elbogen , Austria-Hungary , † December 7, 1979 in Freiberg ) was a German engineer and university professor.

Johann Balthasar Alois Matschak, later called Hans, was born as the son of the hotel owner Johann Matschak and Barbara, nee. Kiffl was born in Theusing in Elbogen, Hauptstrasse No. 53.

He studied at the Saxon Bergakademie Freiberg and became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia in 1919 . He completed his studies in 1925 as a graduate engineer. After initially working as a mining engineer in lignite mining, he was promoted to Dr.-Ing. In 1933 in Freiberg. PhD. He then worked in the field of soil mechanics in the lignite research institute of the Bergakademie Freiberg. In 1956 he was appointed professor for mining water management and soil mechanics at the Bergakademie Freiberg. Matschak retired in 1966.

Matschak was active worldwide as an expert and enjoyed an international reputation for his scientific work on mining water management and soil mechanics. In 1951 he received the ribbon from the Corps Saxo-Montania zu Freiberg and Dresden in Aachen, which was restituted at RWTH Aachen University in Germany . Matschak died in Freiberg in 1979 and was buried in the Donatsfriedhof .

Awards

  • Matschak was a recipient of the GDR National Prize (1964) and the GDR Patriotic Order of Merit (1961).
  • On the occasion of his 65th birthday, he was honored with a scientific colloquium.
