Hans Mekelburger

Hans Mekelburger , also Johann Mekelburger , (born September 17, 1884 in Scharfenort near Danzig ( Polish: Gdańsk -Ostróżek ); † March 16, 1915 in Prasznysz ) was a German freelance painter in West and East Prussia .

Life

Hans Mekelburger came from a Mennonite farming family who lived in Orloff ( Polish Orłowo ) and Hochzeit ( Polish Wiślina ) in Danzig Werder .

He attended the Conradinum in Langfuhr and then studied at the art academies in Königsberg , Berlin and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . The trainers in Königsberg were mainly Heinrich Wolff , Ludwig Dettmann and Karl Storch . After completing his training, he settled in Danzig as a freelance painter .

In the spring of 1914 he made a long trip to Italy, in the autumn of the same year he was drafted into an infantry regiment in Thorn .

After being seriously wounded, Mekelburger died on March 16, 1915 in a field hospital in Prasznysz . He was transferred to Danzig and buried in the Halbeallee United Cemeteries.

Works

Hans Mekelburger created paintings and drawings that dealt with the Marienkirche and death. There are also etchings , self-portraits , still lifes , landscapes and other works from Königsberg.
