Hans Neuendorf (* 1937 in Hamburg ) is a German entrepreneur and former CEO of artnet AG .

biography

Neuendorf studied philosophy and art history in Munich and financed his studies by trading in graphics and paintings. His first exhibition in the newly founded gallery in Hamburg in 1964 presented works of Pop Art, then still unknown in Europe. He represented numerous modern masters in the formative years of their careers, including the American artists Andy Warhol , Cy Twombly , Robert Graham and Billy Al Bengston , British artists David Hockney , Richard Hamilton , Allen Jones and Eduardo Paolozzi , German artists Georg Baselitz , Jörg Immendorff , Bernd Koberling and Georg Karl Pfahler and Italian artists Lucio Fontana and Emilio Vedova . He published an extensive range of art books and catalogs.

Neuendorf consolidated its reputation as one of the most influential players in the international art trade by co-founding Art Cologne in 1967, the first international art fair. The aim of Art Cologne was to bring together geographically separated dealers and galleries and for the first time to provide an overview of what the German art trade has to offer.

In 1990 Neuendorf joined the supervisory board of artnet, a newly founded information service for the art trade in New York. Neuendorf became the main shareholder and chairman of the supervisory board in 1992. As a result, he closed his gallery and took over the position of CEO in New York in January 1995 . Under his leadership, artnet was transformed into an internet platform for the international art market.

In December 2006 the National Arts Club in New York awarded Neuendorf the "Medal of Honor for Visual Arts". The award was given to the artnet founder in recognition of his services to the art market, whose price developments were made transparent for the first time by artnet.
