Hans Palm

Hans Palm (born February 15, 1951 in Burg ( Dillkreis ); † April 6, 2013 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German European champion in correspondence chess .

At the age of 11, Hans Palm learned to play chess . After a few tournaments in close-up chess - u. a. 1969 participation in the youth championship of Hessen - he started to play correspondence chess in the early 1970s.

First he won the 8th German correspondence chess cup tournament in 1972/78. At the same time, he rose to the master class and qualified for the 15th European Championship. Here he won in 1980 and thus became European champion.

Palm took part in the correspondence chess Olympiads 9, 10 and 11. In the final round of the 9th Olympiad he achieved 6.5 out of 8, the best result of all participants. He was also eligible to play in the 3/4 final of the 11th FS World Championship.

For his success he received the title of International Master of Correspondence Chess in 1981 . In 1998, his Elo rating was 2567.

Private

Palm studied mathematics and business administration. Then he worked as an organization manager.
