Hans Pernat
Hans Pernat , actually Johann Pernat , (born February 16, 1867 in Munich ; † April 23, 1919 ibid) was a German publisher of picture postcards , whose publisher mainly brought out cards for the Bavarian and southern German regions. Today his postcards, mainly the artistically designed topographical postcards, are very popular with collectors because of their beauty.
The young years
Hans Pernat was born in Maxvorstadt in Munich and grew up with his older brother Karl in the back building at Gabelsbergerstrasse 59. His parents were Karl Pernat (gilder) and Anna Beckert, a coachman's daughter. After finishing school, Hans Pernat began an apprenticeship as a butcher. Later he went to the Navy in Wilhelmshaven . At the age of 21 he was back in Munich.
Company history
From 1891 he briefly ran a photography business with his partner Dietrich Micherl and from 1895 he had a photo studio.
According to current knowledge, through his photography activities in Schwabing , he published the first postcards from 1899, then also for his photographic studio in Kasernstrasse (which is now called Leonrodstrasse).
From 1901 Pernat officially opened a postcard publisher on Kaiserstraße in Schwabing (Post Office: Munich 23). In 1904 he first published artistically designed topographical postcards, for which he is so famous today. From then on he no longer made postcards only for Bavaria . From 1905 he sold almost only painted topographic postcards, mainly in black and white, but also colored, and began to number his postcards. Between 1899 and 1905 worked for him a. a. the Viennese artist Josef Prokopp (1872–1952).
- In 1906 the coloring company moved to his house in Milbertshofen (post office: Munich 46)
- In 1907 his wife became the owner of the company
- 1909 The coloring company and publishing house were merged in Milbertshofen
- From 1910 the offset litho process was also used for maps
- In 1915 his former business partner Julius Thauer helped Pernat, who was already sick
- from 1919–1922 after Hans Pernat died, Thauer continued the business in Munich-Pasing
- 1925–1932: Kunst- und Verlagsanstalt Pernat Wwe., Munich 46; Therese Pernat took on more responsibility in the publishing house
- 1933 Ms. Pernat moved to Munich 13, Korbinianstr. 8 um
- 1944–1955 Wilhelm de Biasio took over the business
In the course of the publishing house's history, around 15,000 different postcards were created.
Private life
In 1897 he married the artist Therese Gleich, who came from Augsburg. There were no offspring.
